Lightsaber Flashlight

I just like Star Wars

I needed a flashlight and I liked Star Wars! I decided to acquire an aluminum rod and I hollowed it out to make room for a battery and to attach some LED's! Press fit the button to the side of the housing to make an on/off switch.

Project Debrief

This was a really fun little machine shop project! Got my hands dirty machining this piece of aluminum. Turned it on a lathe to hollow it out and used a press fit to attach the button. Even got to look up how to make threads in the Machinery's Handbook. It was also a fun foray into electronics as I had to figure out how to wire the circuit such that every LED received the same amount of current from the battery pack housed within. Only downside was because the top was attached via twist, the wires did not like that and had a strong tendency to break. Were I to do this again, I would probably use some kind of spring mechanism to complete the circuit so that it would not care whether or not it was being twisted.
