ENVIRONMENTAL SURVEY ROVER
Please Pardon The Mess! This project is still ongoing!
This project was inspired by the numerous Mars rovers sent by NASA. Since there exist many environments that are hazardous to the human body, it is necessary for robots to first be sent in to assess the situation first. This is where my rover comes in! It has on-board sensors to detect temperature, pressure, distance, and VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). Additionally, a FPV (First Person View) camera was mounted on 2 servo motors and is able to provide 180 degrees of view in the theta and phi angles. Eventually, it is planned to mount an accelerometer and gyroscope on the goggles and map the vector to the servo motor angles so that when the pilot turns their head, the camera is also aimed in that direction.
This was a personal project where I constructed and designed various subassemblies to work together including power distribution circuit, drive system, coding operating, and integrating sensors (accelerometers, TOF, VOC, thermistor, etc.)
The base rover is currently operational and the FPV camera, gimbal, lighting, operator joystick control, and some sensor data is working. The video can be found on the top of the page.
What's Next: Arduino Code needs to be expanded to increase sensor functionality, simulated VR system needs to be implemented, additional sensors coded, controller LCD screen and housing unit, additional housing for exposed wiring.
